Everton travel south to face Luton to start match week 36 of the Premier League. The Toffees are now safe from relegation and look to build on a good run of form to climb the table. Last Word on Football brings you our Everton predicted lineup for the match that kicks off at 8 pm on Friday, May 3.

Everton Predicted Lineup For Clash Against Luton Town

How Everton Have Lined Up

The Toffees have continued with a steady lineup throughout the season. Jordan Pickford has started every league game in net, earning 12 clean sheets in that time. In front of him, the centre-back partnership of James Tarkowski and Jarrad Branthwaite has started all but three matches together. Injuries to multiple wingbacks meant that Ben Godfrey and Ashley Young started last time out against Brentford

Idrissa Gueye has started alongside James Garner in the previous two matches in the centre of midfield. Abdoulaye Doucoure has dropped into a deeper role to round out the midfield. The first-choice wingers for the majority of the season have been Jack Harrison and Dwight McNeil, the duo providing nine assists in the league.

Youssef Chermiti was given his first Premier League start amid injuries to Beto and Dominic Calvert-Lewin. The young Portuguese striker played well into extra time before being subbed for Michael Keane.

Everton’s Recent Form and Tactics

Everton have won four of their last five matches and now sit 15th on the Premier League table. In each of those wins, they have kept a clean sheet and are currently the league’s fourth-best defence.

A shift in formation has led Doucoure to now be a part of a midfield three rather than a second striker role. This has solidified the team that now lines up in a 4-5-1. Despite this change, the Toffees still rely on their press and counter-attacking abilities to score goals They average just 40% possession, the second lowest in the league.

This press has been successful in turning the ball over higher up the pitch. Only Tottenham have more tackles made in their forward half than Everton.

Coming up against the Hatters will mean that this match will be decided on the flanks. Both teams are heavily reliant on long balls and crosses when in possession, as they both rank top four in those categories.

Everton Injuries To Consider

In this week’s press conference manager Sean Dyche outlined the fitness of multiple players in the squad. Calvert-Lewin, Beto and Seamus Coleman have all returned to training after stints on the sideline. Lewis Dobbin could feature in future games as he makes a comeback from a lengthy injury.
