Minnesota Twins Roster Moves 4/22

The Minnesota Twins are off to a slower start than hoped for this year with a 7-13 record on the year. They are set to kick off a four game series against division rival Chicago White Sox. The White Sox themselves are off to a horrendous start with a 3-18 record. Even with a sweep of the White Sox the Twins would still have an under .500 record on the season, but it would definitely be a good chance to springboard the team forward towards a much improved May. Today before the game the Twins announced five roster moves.

RF – Max Kepler

The Twins have activated Max Kepler from the 10-day injured list. Kepler had only played in five games prior to going on the injured list. He wasn’t doing much of anything from the plate. He had 20 at-bats with one hit, one walk, and six strikeouts.

RHP – Daniel Durate

The Twins transferred Durate from the 15-day injured list to the 60-day injured list today. He has pitched in two games with a one win no loss record. He has a 2.25 ERA and a 0.75 WHIP over four innings of work. He has allowed two hits, one earned run, one walk, and three strikeouts.

RHP – Ronny Henriquez

The Twins selected the contract of Henriquez from the Triple-A Saint Paul Saints today ahead of the game. At Saint Paul he’s appeared in seven games without recording a win or loss, but does have a hold on the season. He has worked in 13.1 innings allowing, 12 hits, six earned runs, two walks, and 14 strikeouts. He has a 4.05 ERA and a 1.05 WHIP on the year.

C – Jair Camargo

The Twins optioned Camargo to the Saint Paul Saints today. He appeared in two games had two walks and scored one run during his time without recording a hit.

RHP- Louie Varland

The Twins optioned Varland today down to Triple-A to pitch for Saint Paul. He’s had four starts and lost all four so far this season with a 9.18 ERA. In 16.2 innings of work he has allowed 27 hits, 17 earned runs, six home runs, 11 free passes, and 18 strikeouts.

Wrap Up

The only move here of any significance is getting Max Kepler back from IR. Louie Varland might be the biggest disappointment on the young season for any team. Varland was supposed to have a break through season and right now he looks completely lost. He’s lost the confidence of management and will now have to make some major improvements if he plans to pitch for the Twins again this season.
